Auto electrical installation company, SM UK, has achieved a turnover of £15m this year, easily surpassing last year’s total of £9m.

The Leeds-based business says its latest results reflect strong growth in the sale of new van conversions across the financial year, countering the general negative trend of slumping van sales in the UK.

The HGV division of SM UK has also enjoyed unprecedented growth, partly as a result of the move to its new HQ in Leeds and the opening of a depot in Dartford.

The fitting of Direct Vision Standard (DVS) safety systems and in-cab comforts such as TVs, fridges, overhead lockers and beds, as well as the fitting of air kits designed to reduce fuel costs, have also given the company a boost and underpinned further growth.

Steve MacDonald, chairman of SM UK, said: “The move to our 40,000 sq ft new build on Gelderd Road has played a major role in this year’s success. We have also invested heavily in our van conversion division.

“This has been further bolstered by the popular turnkey, work ready van, crew cabs and onsite welfare vans, sales of which account for over £5m in sales.

“The all-new Brigade Sidescan Predict and the latest in AI technology as well as in-cab comforts accounted for the remaining £10m.

“Our loyal network is growing and thriving and with contracts won with DPD, Wincanton, FedEx and Ford & Slater, we forecast a strong 2024.”

Managing director, Dave Wilman, added: “‘Better Where It Matters’ is the guiding ethos behind our success with safety, capability and reliability at its core.”
