Design Engineer

Welfare & Van Conversions

Location: Head Office, Leeds

Job Type: Full Time 40hrs, Permanent, Monday – Friday

Salary: Up to £28,000 per annum, depending on experience

Due to our continued progressive growth, diversification and planned further expansion, SM UK currently has a fantastic opportunity for a Design Engineer for our Welfare and Van Conversion Division to further enhance our existing team.

We are looking to recruit a highly organised, proactive and enthusiastic Design Engineer who can confidently communicate at all levels. You will be motivated and ambitious and want to be part of our Team with a desire to expand your knowledge and experience to further develop your future career with us.

Ideally you will have previous van conversion experience within the automotive industry or similar background, with the relevant qualifications and/or experience in a similar role.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for design engineering and be able to work to a high standard on their own initiative and as part of a Team. Drawing on your experience you will be responsible for designing simple racking systems to more specialist bespoke designs.

You will possess excellent design and communication skills and stive to provide the best possible customer solution for every opportunity, building long standing working relationships with new and existing Clients.

You will have strong CAD skills and knowledge to deliver potential and existing customers with relevant optimum design solutions using leading edge products. You will be responsible for ensuring that every van conversion design meets all the required legislative requirements whilst working with vehicle manufacturers, VCA, VOSA and other professional authorities.

Your duties will include the installation of the following on commercial vehicles:

  • Ownership of all CAD aspects of client projects ensuring drawings/design/information are provided within set deadlines
  • Ability to read technical drawings
  • Developing design, in line with estimated concept and best manufacturing methods including van racking solutions, on board power, lighting and accessories
  • Produce, store and issue CAD Model drawings and supporting engineering information
  • Generate Bills of Materials and Cutting Lists
  • Generate CNC programs as required
  • Meeting both internal and external deadlines
  • Project Management
  • Providing an exceptional customer experience
  • Liaising with Manufacturing representatives
  • Following internal procedures and processes
  • Liaising effectively with internal departments such as Sales, Workshop, and Stores to efficiently manage each project and provide a seamless customer service

Stores Operative

Goods Out

Location: Head Office, Leeds

Job Type: Full Time 40hrs, Permanent, Monday – Friday

Salary: £24,000 basic per annum

Due to our continued progressive growth, diversification and planned further expansion, SM UK currently have a fantastic opportunity for a Stores Operative – Goods-Out to further enhance and support operations and logistics at our Head Office in Leeds.

We are looking to recruit a motivated, energetic, and ambitious individual to join our Stores Team. You may already be in a similar role or be looking for an opportunity to change roles, if so, we are interested in hearing from you, and in return we will give you the chance to develop and progress your future career with us.

The ideal candidate will be organised and efficient with a keen eye for detail. The role can, at times be physically demanding so a general level of fitness will be required. A driving licence would be desirable but not essential. We provide full in-house training in our systems and procedures.

Working to a high standard both on your own initiative and as part of a Team, you will have a flexible ‘can do’ attitude and hands on approach, with the willingness to learn. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, dealing with a variety of tasks in a polite and professional manner, with an awareness of Health and Safety and Manual Handling within a Stores environment.

Your duties will include but not limited to the following:

  • Placing a variety of orders with approved suppliers
  • Using a picking list to identify products from internal stores/stock
  • Pick, check and pack items ready for dispatch
  • Manage the dispatch of ‘Kit’ to Engineers at workshop and third party locations
  • Producing the necessary paperwork for each individual package
  • Securely packaging items to arrive in excellent condition
  • Maintain accurate records using bespoke internal software system
  • Identify and record any errors and discrepancies
  • General stores duties including helping to maintain a clean and safe working environment

Installation Engineers

Mobile & Workshop

Location: Leeds Workshop, Tamworth Workshop, Mobile – UK

Job Type: Full Time 45hrs, Permanent, Monday – Friday, 08:00 – 17:30 plus overtime

Salary: £30,115 basic per annum, plus overtime after 45hrs at time and a half, potential to earn in excess of £40,000pa

Due to our continued progressive growth, diversification and planned further expansion, SM UK currently have fantastic opportunities for Installation Engineers to further enhance our existing team of Specialist Engineers.

The positions require confident Engineers who can work to a high standard and on their own initiative and also work as part of a Team.  Ideally qualified to a minimum level 2 City and Guilds/NVQ, with a full UK Driving License, you will possess excellent communication and customer service skills, with a polite and professional manner.

Your duties will include the installation of the following on commercial vehicles:

  • Reverse Camera & Vehicle CCTV installations
  • Vehicle Safety Equipment
  • Visual Warning Equipment
  • Sensors and Radar installations

Job Type: Full Time 45hrs, Permanent, Monday – Friday, 06:00 – 18:00, Saturdays as and when required

Salary: £30,115 basic per annum, plus overtime after 45hrs at time and a half, potential to earn in excess of £40,000pa

Due to our continued progressive growth, diversification and planned further expansion, SM UK currently have fantastic opportunities for Service Engineers to further enhance our existing team of Specialist Engineers to attend service and warranty calls.

The position requires confident Engineers who can work to a high standard on their own initiative or as part of a Team.  You will possess excellent communication and customer service skills, with a polite and professional manner.  A full UK Driving License is required.

Your duties will include, but not limited to, attending service and warranty calls in relation to our installations of the following products on commercial vehicles:

  • Reverse Camera & Vehicle CCTV installations
  • Vehicle Safety Equipment
  • Visual Warning Equipment
  • Sensors and Radar installations
  • Specialist Vehicle installations
  • Lighting and Beacons
  • Attending service calls within our agreed Service Level Agreements

We are looking to recruit a skilled and motivated individual who is ambitious and wants to expand their skills and experience to develop their future career with us. Ideally you will have coachbuilding/bodybuilding experience and may have worked in a variety of roles.  Tasks will include working on many different welfare van and conversion projects, including installation of safety racking systems.  Good general wood/metal and fabrication skills required.  We provide full in-house training.

Working to a high standard on your own initiative or as part of a Team.  Alongside hands-on practical skills, you will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, dealing with a variety of tasks in a polite and professional manner, with an awareness of Health and Safety within a workshop environment. A full UK Driving License would be an advantage but not essential.
