Truck Safety System FORS Mixed AccreditationDVS

The Safety System

The new trucks, which have been chosen to operate in Greater London, will be eligible for a permit to enter and operate within the M25 network, thanks to the visibility drivers have in the cab. However, as a FORS Silver accredited operator, Galaxy Insulation are committed to safety and compliance, and have opted to go above and beyond when it comes to the safety of their fleet.

A 4 camera system, giving drivers 360-degree visibility of all their blindspots. A sensor system down the nearside of the vehicles will alert drivers to any vulnerable road users who may be next to the vehicle when it is about to make a left turn.

The equipment has been supplied and installed by commercial vehicle safety specialists, SM UK. Fitted to the vehicles pre-registration under SM UK’s type approval, so that the trucks will be ready to hit the road and get working for Galaxy from day one.

Galaxy Insulation and SM UK have been working together since 2019, ensuring that all of Galaxy’s trucks can operate everywhere from tight city streets to busy worksites with greater visibility, greater confidence and a huge reduction in the chance of a collision occurring.

Protecting our investment against stricter requirements in the future was certainly a consideration. More importantly, though, we wanted the trucks to be as safe as possible, both for our own staff and other road users. That’s why we’ve added 360-degree camera systems, and scanners to warn drivers of the presence of vulnerable road users on their nearsides.

When Galaxy first approached us, they wanted their drivers to feel confident that they can operate their vehicle as safely as possible, no matter what situation they were in.

The visibility is great. There don’t seem to be any blind spots, and I can still see even when the sun’s shining directly into the cameras.

After we put together a safety system that covered everything they were looking for, and seeing all the additional benefits it has brought to their business, they have continued to roll out the system whenever their fleet grows. It’s always great working with businesses who see the value that vehicle safety systems add, and are always looking to future-proof their fleet.

These new trucks put Galaxy’s fleet at 43 vehicles, and their commitment to safety shows why they’re one of the leading companies in their industry.
